Events coming up:
PTA AGM 24TH September at 7.30pm in the Town Arms
Pirate’s Day
Thank you to everyone for dressing up and taking part in the “Pirate’s Day”. From the feedback we have received this was a great success. The children certainly enjoyed the day making puppets and having stories and judging by the amount of parental help, the adults did too! The themed hot dinner went down very well with over 90 children having a hot meal that day. There is a report and photo in this week North Devon Gazette.
Classes for September
In September there will be four classes which will be two mixed classes of Y1/Y2 and 1 x Y1 and 1x reception. A slip will be coming home on Monday informing you of your child’s new teacher. There will then be an opportunity to meet your child’s new teacher on Tuesday 8th July between 3.15pm and 3.45pm
Tour of Britain
The bike race will be coming through South Molton on Tuesday 9th September and we will be encouraging the children to share the excitement of the race and the benefits of cycling. There will be lots of activities during the bike race week in September. To find out more about how South Molton town will be involved, there will be an open meeting at South Molton Infant school on Tuesday 8th July at 6.30pm in the school hall. All the town’s schools will be involved, so even if your child is due to leave us this year, you will still find this beneficial. Please come and feel free to bring anyone you think will be interested.
Parent/Teacher consultations
Meetings for Yr2 and Reception parents will be taking place in the last week of the term. Please return your slips as soon as possible if you wish to see the teacher.
The Children’s Hospice South West are holding a duck race on 9th August in Rock Park Barnstaple from 10.00am –4.00pm.

Thank you to all the parents who returned their questionnaires. As a result of the feedback, the windows in room 2 and 5 will be communication windows and will act as notice boards for school information i.e. newsletters and posters etc.
Please note that the holiday forms are now called absence notes. If you know your child will be away from school, please obtain one of these forms from the office and complete details. Mrs Fewings will decide whether or not the absence can be authorised, depending on the circumstances and the Educational Welfare Office will be informed of all excessive absences. The form also explains about the impact of absences on your child’s education. Please note that this is a procedure laid down by the Local Education Authority on DCSF directives which all schools must follow.
Jane Westcott from North Devon College will be running a series of courses starting in the autumn term for adults. These are free courses fully funded by the Learning Skills Council. Jane has been providing us, for several years, with adult courses for both staff and parents and is an excellent tutor.
If you are interested in either course please see Mrs Hall in the office for more details.
“Communication with ICT” course in the ICT suite here at the Infant school starts on Tuesday 16th September from 6.00pm –8.00pm and run for 2 terms. This is for complete beginners or recently started computer users and will cover Word/Excel/Publisher/Internet use/Hotmail.
“Numeracy Development for Parents” course will explore ways in which parents can help support their children at home with numeracy skills. This will start on Friday 12th September from 1.00pm – 3.00pm in the infant school library. This may possibly develop into a maths certificated course if there is enough interest. Please feel free to come to the first session to see what is involved.
