School Fete
Thank you to everyone who took part in this years fete, whether it was helping, donating or just turning up and buying! The PTA raised a massive £1350 profit. This money will benefit your child as the PTA pay for or contribute towards all the ‘extras’ that the school budget cannot do. Thanks also to the gymnastics club for their display. If you have any draw prizes to pick up please see Maxine Tyacke.
During the day on Friday, the children and staff created the five Olympic rings in the hall for the photographers from the North Devon Journal and the South Molton News. It should be in the ND Journal this week.
Sports Day
This will be on Friday 6th June at 2.00pm weather permitting. If the weather is wet, sports day will then be moved to Friday 4th July.
Nightwalk
A big thank you to all those parents who supported the staff with raising funds for the North Devon Hospice. The school staff collectively raised almost £1000 for North Devon Hospice, £180 of which was raised through the raffle and coffee afternoon. Thank you once again, you support was much appreciated.
September 2008 Intake
We have begun our induction meetings for the new children who start in September 2008. If you have a younger child and not sure when they should start school, please see Mrs Hall in the office.
Year 2 -The Next Stage
A meeting for all year 2 parents whose children will moving on to the junior school after the holidays will be held on Tuesday 3rd June from 6.00pm – 7.00pm here in the school hall. Transition visits will be shared with parents.
Dinner Money On-line
This seems to be working very well. The school is sent a list of who has paid by 8.30am on Mondays. If you are interested then please go on-line at http://shop.devon.gov.uk
Dinners are priced at £1.85 each or £9.25 per week.
Headlice
Please, please, can all parents check their child’s hair for headlice during the holidays. If everyone does this, we may hopefully come back headlice free!
Please use the wash, rinse and condition routine every two days. You need to do this several times to get rid of the live lice and their eggs, otherwise these will hatch and start the cycle off again. Lice are not pleasant for either pupils or the staff and it needs everyone’s support to get rid of them.
Celebrating learning in and out of school
Thank you to everybody who came to the school open evening. There was very positive feedback about the event and the children proudly displayed their shoe boxes of interest in the hall. This was a new venture and proved to be very successful as a selection of ‘post-its’ record.
“The boxes look lovely – lots of really hard work. Well done”
“Lovely work the children have done. It’s nice to come in a relaxed environment and see the children’s work”.
Olde English Fayre
Just to remind you that Andrew and Samir will be representing the school as page boys on Saturday 21st June. Let’s hope the sun shines.
Adult Tennis Coaching
Serena Stanbury is running adult tennis sessions at SM community college commencing Thursday 15th May 7.00pm-9.00pm £6.00 per session. Please ring Serena on 01643831237 or 07854421840 for more details.
Fire Drill
As a little reminder, in the event of the fire, the assembly point for parents is the staff car park. You are asked to clear the playground rapidly as the children know immediately what to do and were to go, so that we are able to check all our pupils are present. Please also ensure that access routes for fire engines or ambulances are kept clear.
Walk to school week
Starting on Monday 19th May it is ‘Walk to school week’. We will be keeping a tally chart in each class. There will be prizes for the winning class and stickers for the walkers/bikers etc.
Thank you to all those who took part in the ‘Bike to school week’. We did really well. The roundabout was kept reasonably clear, so well done.
Illness There appears to be a number of children absent due to diarrhoea and vomiting. In order to help prevent the spread of infection, please can you keep your child home for a further 24 hours after it has stopped. It would also greatly help your child and others, if you could reinforce the message of the importance of washing hands.
