On-line Guide for Parents
The Devon Children and Young People’s service directory is available on-line at www.devoncsd.info This is an excellent website which gives lots of information regarding sports and community facilities, health advice, support for children with special needs, careers and out-of-school activities.
Clerk to Governors Vacancy
The current clerk to governors is resigning due to work commitments and so the governors seek to appoint another clerk as soon as possible. This is a paid role and the hours are approximately 2hours per week during term time only. Briefly the job will comprise taking minutes and the distribution of agendas and other such paperwork following attendance at governors meetings. Full training will be given and anyone interested should speak to Mrs Fewings, Mrs Hall or Mrs Hook for more details.
Books for Babies
These will start again after the holiday on Monday 21st April and will continue to meet every fortnight.
This is a free group for parents and pre-school children to meet over a coffee and share books etc with their children.
September 2008 admissions
The parents/carers of children due to start school in the next academic year are invited to a meeting on Monday 28th April at 2.00pm in the school hall. If you know of a child that is due to start, please can you let their parents know. Thank you
Medicines in school
In order to clarify the situation regarding the administration of medicines in school, Devon County Council policy recommends that staff only administer medicines prescribed by a doctor. The medicine must be in its original container with the child’s name and dosage on the packaging. If you have any concerns, please see Mrs Fewings, who will be happy to discuss this.
Headlice
Please, please, can all parents check their child’s hair for headlice during the holidays. If everyone does this, we may start off the next term headlice free!
Please use the wash, rinse and condition routine every two days. You need to do this several times to get rid of the live lice and their eggs, otherwise these will hatch and start the cycle off again. Lice are not pleasant for either pupils or the staff and it needs everyone’s support to get rid of them.
Green Team News
As part of their green month, Lantern FM Radio is encouraging all their listeners to participate in WWF “Earth Hour”. This means that at 8.00pm on 29th March, everyone is being asked to switch off their lights for one hour. Last year in Sydney, more than 2 million did this attracting much media attention to the effects of global warming. You can follow the progress on Lantern FM website.
The school has been very active in Lantern FM’s green month, by having Carbon Zero Super Hero into school which the children thoroughly enjoyed. The children did a live link on the radio and as a result of our green efforts and enthusiasm; Lantern FM contacted Mole Valley Farmers who are now donating £50 worth of gardening kit for school. Thank you to MVF for being so supportive.
